Name is Clifford and im dying to get a tank !

I have just moved from the UK to Jeffreys Bay , so settling down slowly slowly ....

Went spear fishing last week and loved it so much that i want my own tank now !

Have oversaturated my brain with skimmers filters tanks and pumps since , still doing research as to what i need and when, as to 'future' proof so as not to buy twice

so im sure ill be popping in the accasional question once i have searched for the answer for too long ;-)

    cheers

    hello blackrat, welcome to MASA:)

great to have you on board.

Just a note though, we dont normally spear the fish we keep in tanks :) A long nosed hawk, for example, is not really big enough to eat :)

what sort of tank are you thinking of? Do you like fish, or corals or a mix? What kind of fish do you like the look of? Tangs, or small shoaling fish, or angels or butterflies etc etc

What kind of corals catch your fancy (SPS, LPS or softies)

look through these ideas and that will focus your attention on what size tank to get. From there matching the correct equipment is far easier :)

also once the brain hits info overload then you need to pop the questions on here and we can do all we can to unmuddle your thinking or confirm the correct conclusions. That way you ahve the whole of MASA backing you up and supporting you as you learn.

Welcome to masa and happy postings :)

    Thanks everyone for the welcome

right now i want a little bit of whats in the ocean outside, inside my house ......

i dont know exactly what im after if im honest, but not a fish only reef thats for sure ..
I intend to keep it as basic as possible untill i have learnt alot more about the ways and means of keeping a tank running.

i do however want what seams to be a rather large tank 2400x600x600 tank, i am still trying to source the glass for this tank. The frame i will construct myself and more than likely will be making my own venturi type skimmer and sump to match ..

livestock will be courtesy of the sea once i am 100% happy that all levels are met to have fishes swimming about .... (this is hopeful, i will be trying to see what i can catch tomorrow and what sort of mission its going to be )

lots more reading to be done , but this take time

pretty much the same as when i started flying RC helicopters , oh if anyone wants to swop for tank stuff gimme a shout , (shameless plug) ;-)

    ta

lol balck, chat to mike about the english royals, the english weather, the thrashing of the Lions or how not to connect a return hose and you will have 20 posts in no time at all.

PS dont call him a POM, very sensitive fella about that.
