Can anyone ID this Hermit, is it reef safe? Shop is selling it as a Halloween but my Halloween's have orange and black stripes across the legs and are definitely not this hairy.

This guy is between the size of a golf ball and tennis ball.

    White-spotted Hermit Crab (Dardanus megistos)

    VERY far from reef safe.

I've found quite a few of these locally before. They get huge and they're wrecking balls.

They are most likely the largest of hermits. But will keep that remote DSB of yours nice and tidy.

    Thanks guys.

Would they be a danger to other hermits?

eventually, but more to your corals. They get BIG and will bump everything off. But until then, they are good scavengers.

yes, i have one the size of your fist, they eat everything, zoa's, even live rock, and heaven help if it if it's not dead, it'll get burried under the sand/substrate within the tank untill it either dies or suffocates to death, untill it is consumed by the beast. Seriously tho... STAY AWAY

Thanks guys, think I will give this guy a skip, even for my remote sump as there's frags in it and other hermits.

He was pretty though, and massive!
