I love the way we all love to give advice, what's the shortest distance between two points, the best way to tie your shoe laces?

Well, my tank is coming, the order is done, so I am am starting a thread on what I should do.

Some info: 1.5x1x.500 tank, three sump compartment, two protein skimmers, ozone with reactor, carx reactor and kalk stirrer and OR chamber with ATU.

Throw the advice at me, any will do, I will neither comment or reject the advice, will be so interested in what you have to say.

Rules, no bashing of different hardware makes, tank makers, I have made my own decisions on my own homework, customer experience from suppliers, and overall product experience from other users. So, if you think vertex is better, I don't wanna hear that, or that black silicone looks better, so what? You get my drift?

Fire away, like the title says, write in this open book, pen your experience.

    Sorry mate.
Dont get what you are after on this thread.
It's kinda the same as asking people how long a piece of string is, is it not?
    What was the question? :whistling:

Carlos - what and how many type of lighting are you going to use? LED units? How many watt's?

Also - what sump design are you going to get? The basic "KISS" 3-partition sump?

Are you going to use a DSB/refugium, or the new Orca cubes? Or the Zeovit system?

What other lifestock are you going to keep, other than your existing corals and fish? And specific fish/corals/clams/anemone's in mind?

OK, well count me out of this thread then.
Surely you need to post a question in order to get advice?

    Well comments would be:
Uhm dude, hope it has 4 wheels....

    Bye :wave2:

@ Carlos, why 2 skimmers? Are they both going to be in-sump?

I've always wanted to try 2 skimmers, 1 at the time of water hitting the sump, and another just before the water get's pushed up to the DT, makes sense to oxygenate the water a few seconds before it hits DT.

Oxygenation does not necessarily need to be done with a skimmer.
Airpumps and airstones work just as well if not better as they will be in contact with a greater volume of water in the sump.

Regarding the dual skimmers, I have seen a setup like this which used two oversized skimmers.
What the owner found was that one of the skimmers would produce very well and the other would under perform.

If I remember his explanation, it was because there wasn't sufficient turn over in his sump for the second skimmer to get enough dirty water to produce an efficient skim.
The skimmer that received the most dirty water had enough dirt to produce foam/skim and the second was reskimming water that had already been passed through the first skimmer.
Another factor was the surface tension of the water changed after going through the first skimmer.

Granted skimmers are not 100% efficient in their work.. in that if x amount of dirt goes into the skimmer, x does not get taken out. However the amount left + the amount of water that wasn't skimmed, wasn't enough for the second skimmer to work correctly in his case.

    so if dirt = x and skimmate = y can i assume skimmer not performing @ 100% = x+y

A lot Depends if the skimmers are running in series or parallel. If they are insump or external...

I dissagree, airstones are for tropical tanks, you'l hardly ever see a fizz bomb in a marine tank.

if this was a factor the skimmers were prolly too close to each other.

it all would depend on what's in between skimmer 1 and 2, personally i find plenty detrius, after my skimmer has skimmed laying around on the DSB, first chamber is overflow and skimmer, 3rd chamber is BioCubes, from there it hits my DSB, it then makes it's way to my live rock chamber of my sump, and then onto the final chamber awaiting return. A second skimmer would work for me, I reckon i'd get the same skimmate out of the second as i would the first.

    My suggestion: keep it simple...

You can do this by not overstocking, hence never needing a second skimmer (seeing as we are all fixated on this point)..

But honestly.. be smart use your flow to get dirt out.. if you cant get it out get it to somewhere where it will settle and you can syphon it out.. things like that...
