Give it a good rinse with vinager water (even let it run fow a while in a bucket) it is ususally caused by some oil in the body from the manufacturing process

Sometimes new skimmers can take a week or so to "break in". Also if there are no DOC's to remove, it won't work.

Oil in the body and breaking in time will cause a lack of skimmate production. His is overflowing. Was it sucking in any air? Is the venturi properly installed?

Another thing.... what water level is it in? skimmer can overflow (even if water level pype is on minimum) if the water level is to high....

Thats what i was refering to. By water level i mean the height of the water that the skimmer is standing in, in the sump. The level should be lowish.. if the skimmer is in water to deep, you would not be able to set the internal water level with the exit pyp (level pype), causing the skimmer to flood.

The internal level must be close-ish to the little nodge below the cone shape.. the external water level must be way lower than that. If the skimmer is submerged in to much water, you would need to lift it out of the water.

that black pipe, with the sponge rings. That is the pipe that define the water level inside the skimmer. Should be between the skimmer neck and cup. The lower, the dryer you would skim. But that outlet MUST be above water level. If your friend's sump is deep, so that the skimmer is "drowning" then it will overflow. Lift the skimmer with PVC pipe or eggcrate stand.

Exactly what RiaanP said. I also have a TS2 and the level that they refer to in the instructions is the level within the skimmer itself and not the level that it must lie in the water. Lift it up a bit then adjust level within the skimmer by lifting or lowering the black pipe!
