Bought a leather yesterday, its doing great in the tank. Was all closed up and small in the bag, but has since opened up very nicely in the tank.

The problem is it came on a piece of rock the seems to be in pieces (the actual leather seems to be holding it together) and which are quite small.

This is making it a bit tricky for me to mount it. Because of this, the angle at which i could mount it is wierd, and not quite upright, and part of it seems a bit crammed for space.

Without a pic, any suggestions? Can i remove the small pieces and remount? Will it grow straight and a bit more upright?

How do you guys mount when the piece of rock the coral comes on, just wont work with the space you got?

If you rest it against another rock, it'll eventually grow against it.

Depends on the light source and flow direction or a combination of the two

Pic would help but i would gather a couple of rocks(small ones that u would like the leather to be mouted on) put them in an ice cream container put leather inside ice cream container... leave in tank where there is not alot of flow and the leather will attach itself within a week or so....

Maybe you could use some putty and cement the base of the rocks to keep them together if you don't feel like slicing him just yet.

I would just break off as much of the existing rock and reattach it to another rock by using elastic bands to hold it down.

So here are some pics after i moved it to a place it think is better

First one shows leather, from a bit of the side and the little piece of rock i have to work with.

Is it fine like this or should i have it lie flat on the smooth sit at the back?

This one shows more from the front how i plan to mount it

you can also see the piece at the back and some small fragments in the front

Use some pratleys putty to glue the rock together and make a nice base for the coral, that might work...

what do you think of the angle i got? Should i let it lie on the back smooth part, or is the way its standing in the pics correct?

Maybe put it at less of an angle. You could lean a bit of the bottom of the coral on your live rock. Then if it isn't happy on the small piece of rock it can slowly move and attach itself somewhere else...
