Help with Magnesium

    Hi could some one please help me with magnesium.ive been using seachem reef advantage magnesium and ive used to much.
    I did a test on 8/6/2013 with Salifert test kit and mg was 1980 way to high so I went to get a new test kit.
    11/6/2013 mg was 2160
    15/06/13 mg 2190
    17/6/13 mg 2250 :eek:

    I haven't dosed with mg for ages and I don't know why mg is going up. everthing els is doing grate in my tank

    ca is 420
    ph 8
    alka 8

    So how do I get the mg down to 1320

    Don't dose more mg, let it come down on its own as your tank uses it.

    Pure reef supplemrnts kalk and purple up

    Water change with synthetic salt with low mg levels.

    @mitchel Purple Up is the problem as it also contains Magnesium. so besides the Mg that you add with your water changes you also add more with this product. i found that magnesium is one of the elements that take the longest to be consumed by the tank and thats why its so difficult to get the levels down. stop using Purple Up as its pretty useless supplement IMO that contains very little amounts of trace elements and do a large water change.

    thanks hot sauce for the good advice didn't think the purple up would push up mg. ill do a big water change soon and stop the purple up

    Just for interest sake, test the magnesium levels on freshly made salt water, before you add it too the tank.
