    Hi guys / gurls

what sort of sump design would you go with in a 50 x 50 cube sump?
My skimmer is a Reef Octopus Extreme 160xs.
i would like to maximize the sump for LR.

Any help / comments would be appreciated.

Sump is way too small for a DSB.
So NP-reactor (you are the first person to whom I ever suggest to use a NP-reactor)

For that matter, have 4 chambers or parts,
First one with filter sock. And its not the socks you put on your feet.
Second skimmer, (first 2 chambers can be one big one)
    chamber for NP reactor.
Chamber for return pump . Again reactor and return can be in one chamber.

    Read up on NP pellets.

Not a big fan of DSB's anyway so that's a good thing I guess.
Got the Sock + DIY holder already.
Wondering about baffle height and if i am already using the filter sock would it then be necessary to us floss before my return?

I would put the skimmer after the NP Pellets.

The reason for this is the outlet needs to be close to the skimmer inlet.

    @RiaanP what do you think?

    You are almost right @Sentari
you need the inlet of the np-pellet reactor after all other filters, with the return pump. But the outlet must be before the skimmer.

Reason for inlet, less clogging possibilities. Outlet before skimmer to get rid of the extra bacteria released as soon as possible. So the NP-reactor works "upstream".

Also I left the option open if he want other reactors in the sump, like carbon and phosphate.

will both the NP-reactor and return pump fit into last chamber.

Is there enough water to handle at least 2 days water evaporation? Even if you have an ATU connected. (in case ATU stops working for whatever reason)

    Loki,

I'll just show you the design I went for for my cube. The sump is 600x550. 7 months in it seems fine.

Yup return and reactor will fit..a bit tight but definitely fit.
The height of the return chamber baffle will be just below the skimmer chamber baffle
and that height is at 350mm and return chamber width is 12.5 so 33x12.5x25= 10.3L not factoring the displacement for the return pump (Aqua One) and the reactor which at a guestimate would be 2.5L leaves me with 7.8L i could raise the baffle to about 40 if i need to. I like elronds idea of cutting it half - 1 return and 1 skimmer section makes life much easier.

Loki, one of my previous bug bears was that the return chamber as way too small and so led to constant manual refills due to evaporation. This problem doesnt exist ofcourse if you have a auto top-up!
