hi, yes make the time interval longer
it normally happens due to excess nutrients i etc from my experience, just had my lounge flooded from this...

also i use a float switch and level control to turn skimmer off when the cup is full, its easy to add etc

@mitchel I got the same skimmer and same problem. I got a DC return pump so when power comes back on it obviosly takes its sweet time pump water back into tank and there for skimmer is deep in water and bubble blaster pump comes on immediately and there by fills cup immediately cause the skimmer is still deep in the water.

The other thing you can do is have a external bucket where skimmer cup can drain directly too. The skimmer will skim correctly once the level in your sump is correct.

the best prevention is to have your return on backup power, not only will this save flooding but keep tank and livestock happy
