Is the pump noisy? What type of noise is it, vibration or rattling?

There should be little rubber stoppers on the plate that slides onto the bottom of the pump. Mine makes a loud vibration if it touches any glass or anything. Also i dont know if its just my ts2 or all of them but when the pump is attached it doesnt sit level with the bottom of the skimmer. Theres a few mm diff between the pumps rubber stoppers and the skimmers bottom. Ewhich causes the whole skimmer to sit at a slight angle if u dont put something under the pump to level it.

Hi Mewik I have removed the plate as mine never came with the rubber stoppers on the bottom plate. And I have mine resting on a thick piece of sponge as well as the skimmer. The nose I get is between vibration and a sucking noise. If i cover one of the black pipes where theair tube runs into from the pump
to the top of the skimmer the noise reduces....

Hi @RiaanP are you referring to the black "cylinder" on the side of the skimmer? If it is that then yes I do and when I cover the one pipe the noise goes away. But there are minimal bubbles been made.

Hi @ butcherman I stay in Springs.

I took the black silencer off my skimmer. It makes a gurgling noise but it skims better without it. If you cover the one line up it will cut the air flow off and render the skimmer useless...so dont do that. The pump shouldn't be all that audible if it is in good condition and securely connected to the skimmer body. Maybe try giving the pump a through cleaning out and run it in some ro and vinegar for 24hrs to clean out any build up inside of it.

Is the sponge you are using a soft sponge or one of those yoga mat type of hard sponges? I would guess if it is soft the pump will still rattle around slightly on the sponge which could make a humming noise.

i posted a write up a while ago how t best illiminate pump noise, best bet is to give it a good clean, careful when you take it apart as the shaft is ceramic and will break if you catch it at an angle.

if it's a tractor noise sounding noise it has nothing to do with air intake.

if it's a gurgling noise then look at air intake.

    Try this quickly:

    1) grab the pipe that allows the air to go down to create the bubbles, pinch it closed for a few seconds and then release it as to stop the air from going into the venturi.

    if you still have noise:

    2) blow down the pipe into the venturi

if you still have a noise:

    3) switch the skimmer off, pinch venturi air pipe closed, switch skimmer back on wait till it fills with water then let the air tube go.

    if you still have noise:

    4) whipp the skimmer pump out and give it a good clean, carefully pull the shaft out, it is very delicate so please be careful, and pull the impellor out, see if there is any visual damage on the impellor, if not reasemble and try it again.

    if you still have noise:

    5) book an appointment I'm out that side Saturday late morning/early afternoon.
