    Hi Jaques, welcome to MASA.
Do post some pics of your setup? We are a bunch of picaholics :)
(Just use the paper clip icon next to the smiley face in the message box... Easy and painless)

I see that youasked for chaeto in another post, but you mention that your tank is only one week old? Did you want to add it to speed up the cycling and to lower your phosphates?

I would suggest that you be patient and wait out the cycling period before you add any thing to your system other than live rock.

    Enjoy your stay with us!

    Hi

Thanx for the reply, I see this site is going to be a lot of help.

How long is the cycle usually?

    Regards
    Jacques

I will add some photo's as soon as I get the pad working.

Usually about 6 weeks if you do it naturally and then start testing water for at least 2-3 weeks to make sure parameters are stable before adding any live stoke.

Onley after ading live stock. The backteria has to muliply and brake down the amoniac and nitrite and nitrate. So when you do water changes to earley you depleat the good backteria and they won't be able to handle the load when you start ading live stock and feeding.

my reading in my tank are as follows

    Salinity 1,021 (a bit low)

    Ph 8,0mg\l (perfect)

    Ammonia 0,6mg\l (good)

    Nitrite 43mg\l (a bit high)

    Nitrate 4.38mg\l (a bit high)

    Phosphates 3.5mg\l (a bit high)

Alkalinity 155mg\l (not bad but still abit high)

    Magnesium 60mg\l (perfect)

    Potassium 110mg\l (perfect)

    Calcium 214mg\l (a bit low)

How much NOPOX should I add to my tank for the phospate and nitrate?

    Regards
    Jacques

Once the amoniac is 0 then the nitrite will come down and when that is 0 then the nitrare and phosphate will come down. So be pationt and just wait it out and let nature take its corse.

Nice size of tank, I'm also starting a new tank, but its only a 20 gallon heh 900mmx290mmx300mm. My advise to you in addition to whats been given is do a lot of research while you wait out the cycle on the hobby. Seriously, like knowledge is key to success in marine aquariums. The more you know in advance the better. Start by researching what the cycle is all about, water change frequency, feeding (once you get livestock) - overfeeding can really cause lots of issues, how to recognise nuisance algae like bryopsis (which can look nice) so you can remove it before it takes hold, planning your livestock before you start buying (plan what kind of fish community you wish to form, what kind of corals you want to keep etc, and then learn about their environments etc.) You don't need to get obsessed with research, but at least check out the stickies on these forums which cover a lot of the stuff you need to know.

I know its probably personal preference, but if going with corals, I prefer to first get inverts and a bit of a coral environment going after cycling before adding fish to the setup, so when the fish are added they are actually coming into a semi established / 'homely environment' not a barren wasteland lol ;)

    Good luck

Hi, I had a look at the pics, you need to add more LR and bigger flow pumps. Nice size tank by the way.
