Found these fish swimming around on the surface of the water. When they were disturber they scattered and then reformed their shoal on the surface again.

Same guy but out of the water.

This one must be of the opp sex as it does not have wings.

i am not certain but a stab in the dark is a simple "flying fish". that just looks like a juv to me, but those peck fins are certainly distinctive and they surface dwellers. nice catch btw

I have 5 of them 2 with "wings" 3 normal.
The winged ones have v shaped tail fins. You can just make them out in pic 2 they are clear.

Yes Shaun, they are flying fish. I see them a lot here in our harbour area, "floating" on the surface. Dunno if there is more than one species though

Thx will try take them back, only thing is their are only 2 left the 2 with the wings.
I looked on the net for them found lots of flying fish but non like them.

Ja, they do not last in our setups. Also lost a few when I put them in the tank

Yes Mek I know that now have a total of 0 left, was going to put them back to day.

So please guys don't catch them they seem very fragile and don't last long.

Help ID please:

I is ether a Threadfin Butterfly or a Pearly Butterfly it does have a dot on the tail "threadfin" but the eye stripe is more Pearly.

NICE - you lucky bugger..... I would definitely say juvenile threadfin.... the "dot" can still appear later on....

I am leaning more on Pearly.

Almost caught a Bluebanded Surgeon, he was in my net and well lets just say the tide won.

Definitely Pearly Butterfly (Chaetodon Madagaskariensis) as the threadfin in juvenile stage already has the spot. Also,The broken black line on the forehead is a dead give away

It does have a spot, in the water it is more prominent.
