before going the chemical route, is your gravel clean? while PO4 and NO3 are a possible cause, cyano also uses dissolved organics etc...

Don't use chemicals, cause more harm than good. How is the flow in the particular area where you experience the cyno? Try changing your flow pattern. Cyno is usually found at dead spot areas. Try siphon it out through a pool gobbler bag back to the sump.

Either change the flow direction or increase the flow & set skimmer to run a little more wet.;)

Replace phosguard. If u are then wash it out. From there siphon out cyno and treat with blue vet red cyno meds. Feed less and don't feed coral foods.

How coarse is the substrate?too coarse and it will continue to trap dirt and fuel the problem.

In my experience lots of carbon and adding an air-stone to oxygenate the water helps.

IMO you over doing the water changes. Remember cyno is bacteria & can increase around area's where there's little to no flow aka dead spots which you don't want in a reef tank. You can change flow direction or increase flow to help. As we said ealier maybe add an airstone to assist & skim more wet...
