    Morning Guys,

    I was wondering what skimmer you guys recommend I get?

    Some things to consider:

    * Tank (1100 x 500 x 500) with a total volume (including sump) of +- 500L.
    * I want an in-sump skimmer for this tank.
    * I'd like it to be overrated for my tank so should I decide to upgrade in the future the skimmer can just be transferred to the new tank.
    * I have a budget of around R 5000.
    * This tank will be moderately-heavily stocked with fish, softies and LPS.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Sorry bud but a tank that size cannot be 500litres. My 1.3m x 0.5 x 0.5 plus 1.2m sump, minus substrate, water levels and live rock is 400L

    But on a note more related to your question, old school TS2 is cool. You can get one for R2500 new I think or the bubble mangus series is fantastic. If you plan on upgrading in the future you could always get a skimmer that is rated for your possible upgrade

    Your display is 275 litres.
    So unless your sump is 225 litres...

    Yeah, I was just spit-balling a bit with the volume. Its probably closer to your tanks volume (Lost my tape measure so i cant properly calculate).

    On the skimmer suggestions:

    I really like the Bubble Magus - Curve 7 and the Bubble Magus - Curve 9

    Would getting a heavily overrated skimmer be a waste? and what is the normal over-skimming rate? 1.5x? 2x? etc and does heavy over-skimming (Say a 900L rated skimmer in a 300L tank) have a detrimental effect of the tank/ skimmer performance?

    Sorry I made a typo on the original dimensions.

    The tank is 1100 x 550* x 550* ~ 320L , The sump im not really sure, will check when I get home from work/find a tape measure.
