Help! Algae overgrowth

    I slowly noticed bits of algae on my LR, but got a couple snails/crabs & they cleared it away. Then a week later, i saw bits of algae growing in my filter tube, and now it has exploded in my tank. i have green/red/&brown algae growing all over my rocks. red/brown on my glass w/ a little of green, and a lot of brown on my crushed coral.

    what do i need to do?! the snails & crabs aren't enough anymore & my margarita snail stays at the top all the time!

    How old is your tank? Crushed coral isn't a good substrate as it can trap detritus causing a nitrate spike and thus giving algae blooms. Rather use argonite or for the cheaper version you can use play sand that has been rinsed clear.

    sounds like bacteria, what do you use to top up, normal water or ro?
