    Greetings to everyone at MASA!
My name is Llewellyn. I have owned a fresh water tank for the past 5 years and have recently decided to start up a marine tank.
So far I have purchased a 4 foot tank for my setup and still have a long way to go.
Although I have done some research...I am needing alot of help from the experts.

My next step is designing and building the sump.
My idea is to have from the overflow
into a section with LR and then into the skimmer through 3 glass baffles, refugium, 2 more baffles and then to the return pump.
    Any ideas?

I would put the overflow and skimmer in the first compartment. then live rock, then a deep sand bed (If you have space) and then the return pump. Leave the baffles out. Dont think you need them. I have never used them and I never get micro bubbles in the display. What return pump and skimmer are you looking at? Also what are you looking at keeping as this will determine your sump layout...

Welcome to MASA, glad you joined. Please read the link in my signature for some great info on how to start a marine tank.
You can also join the East coast reef club and shat to the reefers - it's free and they have meetings once a month - you'll definitely learn a lot from them :)

    Thanks Manic
Okay, I would like it to be a reef tank and have livestock that
    will be compatible with it.
the tank is 4 foot so that's about 200 litres. What skimmer and return pump do you reccomend?

    Leave the baffles.
Combine the refugium with a DSB. DSB should be as BIG as possible. So maybe drop the liverock chamber as well. Check the sticky threads in the DSB forum for more information.

Agree again, drop the baffles. Return pump should be around a 1500L/h unit. That should give you with head height taken into account a flow of about 5 times the tank volume through your sump per hour. Perfect, not to fast to create sandstorms. And that pump will not suck water so fast over the DSB, that the micro bubbles do not have time to escape. If your skimmer or overflow pipe bubbles do reach your return pump, then either your DSB is too small or your flow is too high.

Skimmer, look at a skimmer rated for 500L. Better to go double your volume. I got a Reeftek TS2 on similar size tank. Works perfect. But everybody got their favourite. Also check the For Sale forum. Might get a good secondhand one for a good price.
