I just joined the MASA community and wanted to say hello to everyone. :wave2:

I've had my tank set up for more than 2 years and am converting from a fish system to reef. The system is 65 gallons (245 lt.) and is doing well (except for a aiptasia invasion, which I'm working on with some newly-added peppermint shrimp). I'm a diver so since I can't dive as often as I like I got into the saltwater aquarium hobby.

I started with fish, had a couple of anemones (first one did well but crashed after a year and a half, second didn't do well and crashed within a month ... gave up on anemones). The first couple of years had many fish but overcrowded the tank and the system crashed... only 2 survivors, a spotted green puffer (Tetraodon nigroviridis) ... aka "killer" and a Firefish Goby (Nemateleotris magnifica). From the original setup I have a Frogspawn coral (Euphyllia divisia) that is very healthy and thriving, so I added some new live rock and am building a reef.

    I'll post pictures later...

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA, LifeAquatic! Great to have you on-board! OUCH! Really sorry to hear about the "bad learning curve" you have to go through.

Could you please elaborate on you lighting, filtration (skimmer, ATS, etc), sump design, etc?

Hope you enjoy our community! We have a REALLY great companionship, in marines!

hey Life Aquatic, great to have you join MASA.

sorry to hear about the trials and tribulations that you have undergone, especially about the over loading of the system causing it to fail. Sounds like a tough lesson to learn before realising you need a bigger tank! :)

great to have you and masa.

oh and what about a pic of the killer puffer fish :)

    welcome and happy postings

And here's "Killer" - hard to get him to stay put long enough to get a clear shot... "tank puppy" that he is he's always excited when anyone comes near the tank (he thinks he's getting fed!).

This is "Luigi" the resident "king" of the tank; banded shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) ... trying to learn the scientific names.
