My tank is 790L I'll be going for a FOWLR system for now?

Not sure what species of fish I'm gonna keep yet!

Right now I'm just trying to find a cheaper way to do the rocks etc coz live rock is so expensive

And where I am the cheapest base rock I can get is R65 per kilo
Or lava rock for R25 per kilo but I've heard lava rock is bad
And to be honest isn't very attractive

Hi there, welcome to MASA. I suggest you read the link in my signature on starting a marine tank - awesome info for beginners.
I think that live rock is a vital part in a tanks biological filtration and for pods, other critters and bacteria to populate in and on.
Seeing that you're in JHB, you can get great quality live rock at The Serious Reefer (@Submariner) for a great price. He is in Randburg - phone him ;)
