After registering I received a message suggesting I post here to introduce myself, so here goes:

I'm completely new to marine aquariums. I used to have a freshwater aquarium when I was still at school, but that was a very long time ago!

A friend of mine told me about his 1.2m marine tank and got me interested. The technical aspects of a reef tank really appeals to me.

Not quite sure what I want to do yet - I'm just soaking up information so far and looking at all the interesting setups here on the forums.

Professionaly I'm an IT Network consultant. My hobbies include anything computer related, hardware and software. I also dabble in microcontroller electronics and juggling.

    Hello and welcome.

Start reading. Best thing you can do BEFORE you go out and buy a tank.

You're off to the right start then bud. Something I'd suggest is having a look at all the "Tank of the month" articles on as many forums as you can. Get the tips from the guys that are doing it right ;-)

Thanks Mat. I just had to convince my wife. She told me, 'Fine, but I'm not going to clean it, and I get to pick out the fish' :)

Cool. Now get her to play the game... you involve her in everything, explain how it works and when you get her interest, she will be telling you what to get, etc,etc.... It works for me, and she is now suggesting what to get next... plays exactly into my hands...;)

Ok, tank(s), stand, lights, skimmer, timers, heaters, pumps, plumbing and other peripherals all safely in my braai room. Now I need to start cleaning and assembling it all :)

@Zombie_CT : Thanks for all the extra effort you put in to help get it all transported, I really appreciate it. Carrying the 10mm tank down practically two flights of steps was back breaking work! Thanks for all the extras you gave me and also for driving some of the components to my house even when your advert said 'For Collection'.
