Just finished carrying up enough sea water to fill my first marine tank - a Nano Cube 24. All it has is water and a little sand. The tank was a gift from my son-in-law in Pretoria, who has upgraded to a 4 foot, 300 litre marine tank. I have a house within walking distance from the beach may still be an advantage, but carrying all the water sure made my arms longer! ;)

I have joined this forum as I believe in not re-inventing the wheel, and from reading several threads here, it looks as if this is the correct place to be.

:011: Wait dude. In 5 years time your knuckles will be dragging on the ground. Jokes aside. Little 12volt bilge pumps can do a lot of the carrying for you.

Tanks looking great. Looking forward to the updates

Welcome to MASA Propnut :)lol:) - hope you enjoy it here and learn loads on the forum. Please read through my signature for some great info. Go through some of the threads about these type tanks, the guys make modifications by removing the bio-balls and other filter media at the back as it causes high nitrates in the long run. Or is this one modified perhaps? Depending what you wanna keep you'll need to add more flow inside the tank - like a Seio or Tunze flow pump. Seio's are good budget pumps if you're restricted a bit in terms of $$$.
You need to add some good quality live rock and then your tank needs to cycle a few weeks incase there is die-off on the live rock. After the water teast fine and is stable for a week, you can add a clean up crew and then a fish or two at first. The cycle may be shortened if you do weekly or bi-weekly water changes with natural sea water taken from an unpopulated area away from drains etc.
Enjoy the hobby and don't be shy to ask ;)

Thanks Tobes for the advice. As a retired person you can bet I am not in any hurry to rush the LS into the tank. This tank was donated to me in its standard form, so I would assume that the filtration , bio-balls, ceramic rings and activated carbon are what was last used on Pretoria.

All the extras, from a net to a plastic pipe, I will still have to source before I can proceed. Hang, I still have to find a marine shop in the area! My only joy at present, is the fact that the lights and filtration work and that the tank does not leak.
