Height of metal halides

hi all
i have a open tank. is there any rule about the height of MH above the water level besides the heat generated i'm in the process of building a light stand
from the bottom of the light fixture to the warer is about 16 cm will that be ok

I think that will be fine Gig. Most people recommend 15cm - 20cm above water.

Hi Gigman/Galibore.... I have my 150 watt metal halides +-10cm above the water level.... And I have no heat issues w.r.t my MH's..... I think that if you go into many many 150 watts, or perhaps 250 watts/400watts, that heat and water-loss due to evaporation becomes a major issue.

The only reasoning I would say to have your lights higher up, is salt spray/creep due to water movement at the water's surface, that could "cloud" your MH's cover glass (if it has a cover glass)....
