I am struggling to keep my temperature stable. I am only using 1 x 300w heater in the sump in a 300l system. Temperature fluctuates anywhere between 23.5 and 26.5 randomly.( not day and night ) Do i need second heater to keep it more stable ? Is it better to use 3 x 200w or 2 x 300w heaters. Does it make a difference if the heater is on its side fully submersed or does it need to be upright ?

Sounds like you have a thermostat problem. Two 200w heaters will be good, but get a good brand like eheim or get yourself a temp controller.

Set the heater up so that the top part is out of the water. Just the rubber end.

One day it will leak in water and cause a situation you do not want. Either trip the power on the household DB board (if your tank is earthed). Or chock you wide awake. Or explode.

2 x 200w heaters did the trick. Red lines are 24.5 and 25.5
