Hi guys..last night while me and the lady were watching tv the power tripped with a loud noise,we didn't take much notice and and flippers the switch back up,about an hour later it happened again.and that's when I saw the spark of light in my tank:eek:So I took the heater out and saw it in pieces,I have managed to fine most of it but still looking for two small pieces..this morning my green chromis passed away..I'm worried the others pass away too.i have a boyu tl550 and it was the stock heater.are there any bad chemicals in it and what would be my next heater to go get and average cost?

LOL I think he will buy a new heater the concern is rather focused on his remaining live stock for now.

Sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing.
I still have the standard heater in as a backup for my Jager, think I'm going to take it out.

I have mine but its in another tank not the 550.
I found it takes a while to work in and its not the best skimmer in the world, but unless you are really heavily stocked it does the job. The only adjustments you can make are to limit its flow a bit and open up the air flow fully. Another thing is try not to clean the inside tube of the skimmer too often, the bubbles seem to flow better when its dirty.

Another thing I found is if you are dosing something like special blend the skimmer seems like it isn't working properly, because the special blend is breaking the waste down.
