    HI all,

Im having issues with the heat wave that has come accross us!

My live rock is getting this funny looking white stuff all over it and some of my corals have died, it look slike snow!!!! My temp went all the way up to 34 deg while i was at work! I have fitted a cooling fan into the hood now! :(:(:(:(

Is it from the heat or is it something else???

34 is extreme. Corals and fish would start battling after around 30. The problem is that the oxygen content in the water decreases as the temperature increases. Do you have any pictures?

Just remember the evaporation will increase, so you'll need to top up RO more often.

eish good luck, I think 34 has done some damage, if you can maybe try and do a big few water changes, there will be some damage and I am scared of a crash/cycle, just watch out for any corals going black, or if Lps/sps going white, then they dead and maybe remove.

I kept my first tank going for 2 years in Zululand where your heat wave temerature is the norm for us. I used about 20 2l frozen cold drink bottles. In the daytime the wife changed bottles that was placed in the sump and at night it was my turn. We managed to keep the water below 28 degrees this way.

Yep 34C would cause serious damage. You would need to check your NH4 and NO2 and NO3 levels closely now, ensure pH is stable by buffering your alkalinity (as dying organisms will mess with your pH). Obviously take the others' advice in fixing the temperature.

your zoas will be fine, I had forgotten some in a drum in the zululand sun for two weeks, put them in my qt tank and 5 minutes later they opened. There was even hydrogen peroxide in the tank if I remember correctly.

The one pic looks like it was star polyps, or xenia, doubt that will survive, looks like it's dead already.
Maybe just set your skimmer to wet, and try do water changes over the next few days if you can.

What heated the water so much? Try to find the source so taht it doesn't happen again. Chillers are the best imo.

It might be that your heaters aren't set properly. My heaters are all set at at 21 which is actually 25. From the pics your tank looks fine though. The chromis is still alive.

blowing a fan onto the water should help. It will cause more evaporation so you will have to top up a bit more.
