Leave it in the garage, read as much as you can about marine tanks .... then get started. Trust me .. you going to be spending a lot of money! Learn as much as possible first .. then get started.

Don't get water from there. Lots of people complaining about algae with their water.

What sand is it - did you wash it?

Remember Elite sells RO and Mixed Seawater

Once it is up and running and everything seems fine, you can seed it to start the bacteria growing.

You need Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate test kits.

I calibrate my refractometer everytime i use it. To tell a newby to use a hydrometer is the biggest load of garbage i have ever heard

Okay, lots of info coming my way. LOL

    So steps are as follows:

    1) Get water from my shop (Elite Aquatics) (mix of RO and sea water?)
    2) Add to tank and start all filters pumps ect.. including Protein Skimmer
    3) Add Live rock?

Yes, yes and yes... But water from an LFS is going to start being expensive. You live at the sea so why not use it? It's more beneficial anyway because it contains plankton so you won't have to fee your soft corals so much...

easy there tiger! Many a reefer has used a hydrometer sucessfully! I am mearly showing you what a sucessful reefer like bob says. A refractometer is not the end all andbe all to salinity. Plus if you dont know how to use and calibrate it, it will be of no use to you.

    Lol

I hear ya, but the hydrometers at the LFS are really no good, we all know that. The hydrometers get one bubble in them that u dont see and all the readings are out. So i would never in a million years mention the word hydrometer to someone with zero experience. I may be wrong but ive never seen a hydrometer that is worth trusting
