I will be cycling a tank for the first time in years and want to use Start up which has the bacteria to colonise the tank as well as some plant extract to bind the ammonia. It says that one can add fish after 12 hours of adding the product which I have no intention of doing but I would like to get opinions on the product.

One of the best products on the market. I use BioDigest everytime after I do a water change.

I always Use Prodibio and works well, esp for cyling a tank and if you continue to dose you will have a very good chance of not even getting cyno and GHA

Has anyone calculated Biodigest cost vs. the cost on Microbelift Special Blend?

If I am not mistaken the Special is much cheaper, and I have used it to start up a tank basically from scratch.

The Mrs. came home with two teeny tiny boxfish and said - "so where is my tank for these..."

I had to start up the cube with sand from the NPS thank, LR from there and water from scratch. Used the Special Blend and have not had any issues.

So as a startup as well the special blend proves great, and again, as far I have calculted it is cheaper. A while back I also wanted to go with biodigest, but it was not the cheapest option.

    Has anyone done the math?

Jaco, Prodibio works out to about R51-00 per month for a tank up to 1000 litres dosing one vial every ten days. I personally found special blend very expensive on a big system as I just about half finished a 500ml bottle on my initial dose which costed about R300-00.

To get back to the point of my thread, I used the Start up on my system and added fish after a day and I still haven't had any losses to date. I've even added clams, wild cultivated SPS's and more fish with no losses. You just have to watch your feeding for about 10 day.

My phosphates are currently at zero and my nitrates have just hit zero:thumbup: which is a first for me. I used Elos phosphate and Sailifert nitrate test kits

    cant find special blend prices...

prodibio biotim dosing costs about R18 per week on average, if you buy in bulk... that is dosing to vials every two weeks.

Erle, I just use vodka at a dosage of 1ml per 100 litres so I only have to buy the bacteria. I bought a 500ml of special bland at Wild on Pets in Joburg for about R300-00. Not sure about the prices of the other sponsors
