I am starting to see lots of Asterina stars in my tank. MY coraline was growing nicely but I understand that these Asterinas eat that.

I want to get a Harlequin to control the Asterina's.
Do you think the Harlequin will wipe out the stars before they can reproduce.

I was thinking of adding stars to my sump to allow them to breed so I can add them as required to the DT.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I had a harlequin and did a fantastic job in clearing out the asterinas. I then had to start feeding him live stars. At some stage I could only get a large red reef safe star. After the harlequin started eating the star, my tank started sulking for about 2 months. I am not sure if the starfish released some kind of toxins or what, but I am not sure I would recommend getting one just for the asterinas. They are super cool but more work to feed than pleasure. Maybe 'borrow' one or pass it on as soon as your asterinas are wiped out. Not sure they will get 100% of the asterinas out. After about a year, I am noticing some again, maybe came from new frags. But, they are really cool!

Thanks. I also have a sand sifter, he is pretty large, but I'm sure that shrimp may trouble him.

I'll start putting them in the sump manually. Lol

I am afraid the harlequin will eat the sand sifter before any asterina! But well worth it if you can buy one to pass on when your asterinas are gone.

I rather not get a harlequin, this starfish gets drunk.
