Hi Guys/Gals,

For those that are not aware I have managed to intentionally get myself a mantis shrimp (I will be collecting it from Exquisite reefs tomorrow, thanks Willem) I have decided to call the shrimp Hannibal, thanks for suggesting the name Copperband View attachment 60483 .

Hannibal will be housed in my QT tank while I am constructing his/her (OK maybe not a good name if it is a girl but hey) new home.

Details of the Cell:

The tank is a 30l tank of 450 x 300 x 225 (LxHxW)mm
It will be setup without a skimmer using only LR for filtration, I will also do a weekly 2L water change. I already have the LR in a tank so I am hoping for a very quick if not non-existent cycle.
The tank will be lit by a 15W T8 lamp nothing special.

I will also be adding some caluerpa to the tank, maybe some zoos and GSP...

This tank will hopefully be setup at work (Must still speak to the Boss).

Here are some pics to start this thread off:

I have also got a cover for the heater to prevent it getting smashed.

And another pic of all the equipment with a ruler to give an idea of scale.

Hopefully I will be posting a lot more pics and some video clips here soon...

Looks good, what are you using for substrate Waynan?

The Cell setup, all the LR is from an established setup now all I need is a decent pump, and to get some caluerpa...

And a pic of a very angry mantis (looks like a G. Smithii)

Wonderful creatures these Mantis shrimps and the one you have looks nice aswell....

If only they werent so dangerous..

They are not as dangerous as you would think, most of the negative info about these shrimp relates to the bigger species, the ones under 10cm are generally not problematic, the worst case they can break your finger, but only when around 8-10cm smaller will at the worst split open your finger.

It's not like it's a blue ring octo...
