    Hi all

It was my birthday yesterday, and like any good SPS reefer's fiance, she bought me a low range hanna phosphate tester!!!!

Now for the perplexing news. I tested with my salifert kit, and it told me that I had 0.01ppm phosphates which is good right ? Well hanna begs to differ with a reading of 1.48ppm !!!!

    Who should I believe ?

I have colour on all my SPS (Not great, I hav pinks, My yellow is not to great, Turquoise, Purple, greens and blue )???? I am not sure now?

My monti and birdsnest are all showing growth ? not fast but growing ?
My Acro's do tend to be very slow at growing !

I do have a bit of brown algae and GHA(tiny amount on my overflow) but the seem to be dying.

    btw My Nitrates are 1ppm

    Any input ????

Higher phosphate levels will prevent calcification in corals and coraline algae. Which means slow growth. So your values could well be highish.

id believe the test kit which bears out what you are seeing slow growth and a bit of algae doesnt sound like 0.01 phosphate

    I say change your fiance.
If she hadn't bought you this test kit, you would still be completely happy with your set up:whistling:

From my understanding the Hanna Test kit tests TOTAL P04 where the Salifit tests PPM. I would check this though on the site.

1.48 is high but I agree - what symptoms do you see in your tank and does it match what the test kit is saying.

Also jump on RC and go to sponsors then to hanna test kits. There are batch numbers of reagents that they have recalled make sure you dont have one of those.

@Tremayn, correct :) to 100% correct it doesnt have low range at all.

Ask @bryan we did a test between the Hanner an the Red Sea high accuracy test kit and they were about 0.01 difference between the two.

If you want to check your hanna checker I am back next week we can do a comparason just incase...

@mytank I would like to see hanna vs DD kit as it has a low range test. I get much more accurate results from that kit

When I am back I am interested to see the results too - have done it against the Red Sea kit getting 0.01 variance
