My hammer frag I received quite some time back from Mandarinman was doing really well. It was just one head that split into 2 then 4 new ones started growing and just recently it looks like one of the big heads is splitting again.

The problem is since last week the coral aint expanding like normal and yesterday was the worst it has looked since coming into the tank. It was retracted enough for me to see the "stalk" where the "meat" of the coral starts and it looked yellowish and like its receding a bit.

Does anyone have some info? Is it some kinda disease maybe?

    Ammonia - 0
    Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - <7.5 (bit high but it's always been like this)
Calcium - dunno but coraline algae is growing well

Sorry, don't have pics yet. Will try to take some tonight. This is my favorite coral and really don't wanna c it die.

yeah, in addition to what shaun said, they like med to low flow. their tentacles should be gently moving in the flow. my two headed brown frogspawn opens the same size as my green with twenty heads cause of the difference in flow of the two spots. be it minor but still. maybe its time for a wc. whats your po4 like?

Flow is very gentle. Where it has always been. Have not measured alk for a while but last time it was 9. I did skip my water change this week. Maybe thats it. Mushrooms are doing fine but they're a lot tougher i guess. Will only be able to do water change on the weekend. Will c if that helps.

Unless you have a huge bioload, I don't think skipping one WC would effect this coral.

Hammers are some of the strongest LPS around.

Any chance you got any coral munchers in your tank ?
