im proud to say that ive got absoloutley no hair algea.
My question how did it dissapear?
i battled with this stuff for over 10 months and then in a matter of 3 weeks all gone?????????
i stopped manual removal altogether as i was sick of it.i never used any p04 media.
these are the only changes that ive done to my system

1.let Chaetomorpha take up all the space in the fuge area, this way every bit of water that was entering the sump passed through the Chaeto.

2.been using Sodium Bicarb (robertsons) to maintain alk. (doubt this helped)

Nice Mek. Can't help with your question, but happy for you!!

Hmmm, i would say your tank is reaching a balance and the Chaeto is obviously out competing the algae for the nutrients, so it has basically starved. Good news is that it shouldn't return again if you speak to Sean H. he has a theory that at around a year a tank finally settles in and starts to mature, he seems to be right.

An amazing thing indeed. Having more than one tank, i have sometimes exchanged rocks from one tank to the other. Within days of introducing a hairy rock into a hairless :err: tank it disappears. :biggrinjester:

I would leave it. Cooking is extreme, and should only be done to new Kenyan or rock that has a problem imo
