Got me these for the car. Incredible lights.

Now my question for the light gurus out there. Can this not be used for Reef tank Lighting???

Oh, just found out someone else also had this topic going on another thread:

Will a Car HID Xenon Light Work on a reef Tank - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

But I see that there is no real answer yet. Surely it must work.
I love the fact that it works of 12V, and the wattage is way low.
And for the cost of 02 it is about R850.00, including the Ballasts.

That means that you can run quite a few of these and it'll still be cheaper than Metal Halides as well as helping out wrt Load shedding, meaning, you can run this of 12Volt or 16Volt.

Come guys and gals, help us get to a conclusion here- and no, I am not buying 8 plus just to test the par etc. Where's the clever guys??

I think it would be best to try it out on a frag tank - I wonder what the spread of light will be and the heat and run time of the bulb? The 10000k and 12000k look good.

I think it will work. they basically 35w metal halides. so you will need a couple in a big tank but for a nano or small frag tank its perfect.

they also come in so many temperature ranges.

Iv got a pair lying at home that I should give a try.

In the last part I see he also wrote (briefly mentioned) about using electricity in the reef tank to create coral growth, also something I have been very interested in. Would love to know more of his thoughts on this.

Again, thank you for the link- I am thinking to get the lights and put them in the tank to at least try
