    Hi guys,
I have this plant growing from my live rock. Can anyone tell me if this is to be removed or left alone? Good or bad? This is a macro photo that I took. The growth stem is about 1 and a half inches long. It grows fast. Approx 3mm per day on the 'leaves'. the stem seems to stay the same length.

    Thanks

Yip, caulerpa - can become a pain in the butt and take over the whole tank. I would remove it before it becomes a nuisance.

I keep Caulerpa in my DT, it grows like crazy but there are benefits to keeping it. I used to have an issue with hair algae, put this stuff in and it sorted it out :)

if you do remove it just make sure you don't toss it down a drain or toilet. if it gets into the .... oh, never mind, kempton park is far from the see.... i think..

i have it in my sump too, but i think it is actualy not legal to have any more. most guys are now using cheato instead.

    Yeah, caulerpa is evil stuff...

The entire shallow bed of meditteranean sea is coated with Caulerpa taxifolia. They first discovered it growing at the outlet of a large aquarium. Instead of removing it, they monitored it (idiots) and then all of a sudden it just exploded. Turns out that this particular strain was highly adapted from being grown in captivity. Highly toxic and much faster growth rates.

So if you use caulerpa, please be very careful with disposal. Burn the bastard, or use it for compost. Just dont flush or chuck away near the sea... its really evil stuff.

As a general rule, you should never release anything from your tank back into the sea. You could be introducing pathogens and goggas from the other side of the globe, which our local species simply dont have any immunity to.

Drk..thats not the only reason there are so many Lions all over. LOADS of them (even eggs) are being sucked up by passenger boats ballast and released when they get to the next port of call
