works just like a regular stabiliser just in a novel package, @boegie it will only destroy what goes through it so it will not affect your denitrifying bacteria at all

I will not waste time running this on my tank.

Maybe for 6 weeks on a QT tank. Thereafter you replace the globes. UV light is only effective for 3 months / 12 weeks. So after 6 weeks it only works at 50%. any eguiptment doing only half its job needs to be replaced.

Also you get a film coating on the glass tubes inside the UV unit. Same slime you get on your tank sides. That also worsten the amount of actual UV that reach into the water. So to be really effective, you need to take that unit apart each week and clean it. And are you sure that type of UV globe is freely available in SA?

If you really want to kill pathogens and other bacteria, rather spend your money on a ozone unit, small airpump and timer. Then run that for 30minutes in the morning and in the afternoon. Plus it will take out some DOC (that yellow in your water) while busy. Allowing better light penetration for your T5 tubes.
