i had a terrible Hair algea problem on my system for over 10 months, this is what i did and i managed to stop it in a matter of 2-3 weeks.
i had Chaetomorpha in my sump and all i did was just let it grow (ie no trimming) so every bit of water that past through it was filtered and im pretty sure thats what killed it.i ran my lights my sump lights on a reverse photo period but for 14 hours a day.along with this was heavy skimming.

you can try what i did aswell and add in some po4 remover.put a stop to it now befor it gets out of hand :)

Pete - I would go the phosphate remover route first. Just remember that this takes around 2 or 3 months (possibly much less in your nano system). THEN, if you still have GHA, and you then want to, remove your live rock, place it in a dark container with a power-head, and leave there for another 6-8 weeks. This is nearly guaranteed to resolve your problems!

Get a algae blenny (lawnmower). They are hair algae machines - goto love'em, goto hav'em.;) Worked for me!

he died 2 weeks ago, i had him for more than 2 years:(
every time when i placed my hand in the water he swam on sat on my hand asking me to pet him. i could take him out of the water and place him back in, without reaching for him(punk said he wont do it 3 times in a row.....haha he did)
miss him very very much

i didn't have enough algae in my tank to feed him and he didn't want to take nori.
he became thinner and thiner and thinner, so i added him to the mantis tank, but that didn't help.

Sorry to hear man, I can just imagine how you feel. My shrimp died a few days ago and it felt like I lost a dog(had him for over a year - also on my hand always). Luckily my blenny chows nori also.

PS: sorry for jacking the thread mods...
