I have three chromis in my tank. I have not noticed them fighting ever. I just noticed that one of smaller two that I have has a lesion on its side. It was not there last night!!

    Tank mates are:
Large PJ cardinal (This cuy is a bit territorial towards the chromis)
    Bi color blennie
    Six line wrasse
    3 blue green chromis

I am not sure this is a battle scar though? Could it be something else?

The fish is breathing heavily and has lost wait.

    Any advice?

    Water tests!

    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 0
    Phosphate 0
    Specific gravity 1025 @ 25C

If you are wondering why my tests read 0? I have allot off algae growing in my tank:)

That mark just looks too big to be an attack wound? Would I have noticed this earlier if it where a parasite or funges causing the problem?

I just looked again and it looks like a fresh wound. If it is infact getting knocked of bye the other chromis their is nothing I can do except isolate it?

I am just worried this is some kind of infection?

I agree with @459b. If non of your other fish are presenting any systems then its being bullied. Unfortunately chromis fight in smaller tanks. A good way to stop this is to provide many more hiding places, but this would mean adding lots more LR, not always a viable solution.

I hope so! They are such awesome little fish. These where the last fish to go into my tank, and that would have been my stocking for now till I get a bigger system.

That sucks. Sorry to hear about that your fish. I had a similar issue with my chromis. Bought two,the bigger one would pick on the smaller. So got another two to cause I read they like to be in groups bigger then 3. Then the original two started picking on the smallest of the lot. Lately bullying has stopped can't say why. But I've read that some will kill each other off till there's just one left. Hope that's not the case for you

I wanted 5 but only three where available, and I took them. It would actually suit me if my last two pair up. If they do not one will have to do. I cant really house more than three in my tank, as it is about at stock limit. I think?

Bflynn – I’m sorry about your Chromis and I can’t help with an explanation but I was really interested to hear Fanlie’s story about his Chromis going blind. I had exactly the same problem with the six Chromis in my tank. When the first one disappeared I put it down to the bullying issue that many people had reported, although I had never seen it in my tank. Then the second one disappeared. And then the third. While looking for the body, I found the fish hiding under a rock looking quite disoriented - seemed to be bumping into things. Two days later it was gone and I presumed it died but I have a 1.8m tank with lots of rock so I wasn’t surprised to not find a body. I started paying more attention to the behaviour of the other three but all seemed fine at this stage, as were all the other inhabitants (clowns, goldies, tangs, etc.) Then I noticed one of the remaining three stop eating although he was swimming through the food as it was added to the tank and occasionally snapping at a piece. On closer observation it became clear that the fish was blind – it was swimming very slowly and actually swimming into the rock work. The fish was still alert and when I put a net into the water and he touched it he certainly reacted and swam away. But If I put net in front of him he just swam into it. Eventually, exactly the same thing happened to the last two. The strange thing is that it didn’t happen to all the fish at the same time – it happened over a period of about six or seven weeks. There was no cloudiness of the eyes that I could see. I don’t think it was some form of toxin as I would have expected the other species to also have been affected or, at the very least, all the Chromis to have been affected at the same time. The fish were acquired from two different shops, but at the same time, so it is possible that they could have been part of the same import shipment. Still don’t know what caused it but one possibility (although I have no proof of this) is that the fish had been caught using cyanide – I have seen on other sites that members have reported that blindness is one of the symptoms shown by cyanide-caught fish.

@colins.

Just an update here! My two chromis have paired up, the smaller one was yellow for two days a week or so ago. The bigger one still chases the smaller one, when I stand bye the tank. Show off!!
