My Tank is 200 lit. Recycling for 4 months with no fish. All tests done by the Marine shop who install and maintains it. Only one Clwn Fish now who is very happy. I have live coral rock which is also covered with algae. Alge going maroon red now. Sunsun filter-Uv light. No power head yet. No Protein Skimmer yet. Water very clear. Have to turn over coral sand evry night to clear alge.

Take few pics for the guys to see. All I can say is you have a long road ahead in getting your tank running properly. Whats up why no skimmer? Are you running carbon and and have a phosphate remover? Do you use ro water?

Welcome. Once we have pics we can help more. What salt brand do you use? As Suhayl asked, do you use reverse osmosis water?

    Welcome to MASA!
Can you please give us a detailed breakdown of your filtration (pics would also help..we love pics!!). "maroon red algae" sounds like it could be cyanobacteria. Algae is normally caused by high nutrients, what are you adding to the tank (food, additives etc). What lighting do you have?
What tests does the shop do on your waere and can you post the exact readings they get?

The Marine shop maintains your tank? Does this mean they supply the saltwater for water changes?

Just a note... Algae is not a bad thing - not at all. It is in fact algae that is basically the heartbeat of the ocean.

The reason your water is so clean is due to all the algea, as the algae consumes "nasties" that makes your water icky... That is also why the LFS would not test any issues in your water, as the algae consumes it all...

You mentioned a sun sun filter... is that the UV light, or a filter on it's own? Elaborate a bit on your filtration please...

The best thing would be to set up a remote filter / sump with a DSB, maybe some carbon and for now, the largest algae scrubber you can apply... Have a look on MASA, many threads on algae scrubbers... Then, once the scrubber is set up then you can physically remove the algae, as it will start growing on the screen.

Basically you will be giving the algae better environment to live in. Then, once all your other filtration kicks in and then you can later take out the scrubber if need be...

    Good luck!!!
