Imagine if coral reefs become extremely endangered soon, all harvesting etc will become illegal and it'll probably become illegal to even own live corals. Unless you can prove that they were aqua cultured. Even then, I suspect that there will probably just be a blanket ban, as it'll be too difficult to police. Has anyone heard any murmurs surrounding this?

    That sucks!
If the reefs go so will all the fish that live in them and then we'll be forced to keep ....... bathwater or if the rivers ecosystems collaps, worse ........goldfish!

this is really disturbing.... wow really scary

What can we do to play our part in helping our coral reefs to survive?

maybe force our LFS to sell aqua-cultured corals? its just a suggestion...

I think that in the future reef keepers will have a large part to play.
Buying aqua cultured corals sounds like a good idea Junz although according to that article all of the sea's corals will die.
Wouldn't it be better to keep them going in our tanks than to have them die out completely?

Mudshark, there's already restrictions coming in place in 2010 to restrict the harvesting and selling of Ricordea's to a bare minimum. And we thought they're expensive now, just wait!! Then there seems to be a total ban coming in place for the harvesting and selling of Ricordea's in 2011. The aquacultured stock can still be sold but you can imagine what it's going to do to the price!!!:(
I can't see a total ban on harvesting and selling of all live corals being too far off...

Having dived the reef off Port Douglas in 2007, I will be devastated if this happen as it is the closest thing to heaven on earth....

if the corals in the ocean die , we should be more worried about our lives and not the hobby as a vital chain in the web of life will die , which means fish will die etc etc all the way up the chain to us
