Bru, go consult a doctor, if youre finger is swollen so much that you cant move it theres a chance to get compartment syndrome. Another thing, salt water is filled with bacteria so chances is there for infection aswell. Keep a close eye on it. If its turning red and warm, augmentin will be a good idea....

Not worth losing a finger over, or getting sick. I'd see a Dr., too.

soak the finger in hot water (as hot as you can bare it) this will help to coagulate the poision.. which is a protein, seek medical attention from a qualified practitioner and im sure he will prescribe painkillers..

i would rate this simular to a devil fish sting which has never been an extreemly serious injury although painful.

what worries me is we have no way to know what your sensitivity levels are to such poisions.. while not severe in most cases you do get the odd person who has an BAD alergic reaction..

good luck and keep us posted..

you're using your hammer wrong mate, hit the nail not your finger, whenever your fingers gets hit by a hammer its gonna swell!

glad to hear you got medical advice and thanks for the heads up, ive never had a reaction to a coral but gloves realy are worth while.

Beware, beware. The sting is not the dangerous part, the possibility of infection by marine bacteria is much more dangerous even though it's less likely. Some marine organisms are resistant to your often used antibiotics like augmentin and can and has caused fatal infections. If your finger is red, swollen and painful and the swelling and redness starts to spread to your hand/ forearm I would suggest immediate medical attention. Not a pharmacy, go to a hospital casualty centre and be sure to tell them that you had an injury may have been infected by a marine organism. If it's spreading DON'T waste time! If it's not I would just carefully observe. Again, bacterial infection is unlikely but very dangerous.

If any of the mods have access to this person's email or phone number please let him know ASAP. I have seen this before.

I know it looks like I am over reacting but I have seen a man die within three days of a small injury while cleaning prawns. Marine bacteria don't often cause human infections but when they do it can be very dangerous.

No glove, no (tank) love. :018:
