    Hi all

I am the newest member of the Two Oceans aquarium staff.

My specialities are in corals and invertebrates. What you see in the coral exhibit at the aquarium is my work, aswell as the jellies and their culturing.

On here to express my knowledge, hunt for tips, learn and educate and possibly offending some crazeee ppl

    Just to give you an idea of what im working with;

Exhibit - 7000Liters, infested with aiptasia, no DSB but an aiptasia factory, and a recirculating skimmer with an aquamedic 3500 pump - no pinwheel, and last but not least a flatworm epidemic in the tank.

Coral frag and holding - Holding is ok, bit of cyano and all aiptasia nearly clear
Coral frag - Disaster zone, completely FUBAR, completely

hi there @Midnight Reefer and :welcometomasa2: to MASA

sounds like the Two Oceans Aquarium is specializing in Aiptaisia :)... you have a awesome job by the way, I would love to get paid for looking after corals and fish. Unfortunately as life goes I'm stuck in IT

Are you a marine biologist or have you studied for what you do? do you have any tanks of your own ?

Thats a looooooonnnnnggg story bud, to shorten, im a geologist with a passion for marine life.

I used to have a 2500L SPS system but gave it up when I figured I had to work on the mines, but BANG, here I am!!!!

Would you skim a 7000L system with an Aquamedic 3500OR??

Been taken behind the scenes with Andrea, and when I left, the only thing I thought was wow, your aiptasia cultivation is really thriving. Never seen so much aiptasia before.

Yeap, so you can imagine the biohazard I have to clean up!
completely draining and re-sanding the DSB today - which is the most efficient Aiptasia factory ever.

But what can one do when the infestation has taken over?

Can you imagine an overflow, with a carpet of aiptasia, almost blocking the overflow, its bad, really really bad

Some natural predators is the best bet. I would love to see what you guys do in the frag tank as I love propagation. Why is the frag tank FUBAR?

Unless you are steralising the entire system, cleaning out the "DSB" section will not solve your problem.

Also I doubt your DSB is fueling their growth, generally Aipitasia outbreak is an indicaion of overfeeding, you can normally see this in guys with nps coral tanks. they always have an infestation problem.

Id also like to know why your frag system is FUBAR.

Get Berghia nudibranches. I think that will solve your problem

    Hi again dudes.

I am open to try anything to get the aiptasia gone, Berghias are difficult to obtain @Bonehead

Filefish were mentioned but are they reef safe?? I do not want my half meter wide chalice colonies tanking any stress!

FUBAR because its more of an algae farm, buggerall flow and pretty much no skimmer.......well a reeftek TS1 with a normal waterpump and an airline stuck in the inlet for venturi.....
    It's a dire situation

Not even mentioning the amount of kalkwasser added daily which is mixed up with tapwater, TDS 140......
This has been fixed however but the calcium conc's are at around 700ppm and dKH underbuffered.

+flatworm problem in exhibit with the previous aquarist treating with freshwater baths!!!! disaster!!

My work is cut out for me, gonna sterilize the frag tank and restart. Holding tank is comming around but so much coralline! any tips please?! Please!!!
