Recently my one goldie has grown a fair amount larger than the others, and it's fins have started going darker on the tips. It has also been acting a wee bit agro lately. Sorry for bad pic, cellphone + agile fish = argh.

Is this the start of sex change or is something else wrong?

    Thanks Brent :)

I lost 2 - one I suspect to the coral bandeds (who are now long gone to another reefer) and another when I was redoing my scaping... I had taken all the rock out and one was hiding in a crevice... by the time I noticed he was too far gone :(

the other 3 are strong and kicking though! eating like pigs and doing their thing :)

    Hello Danimal,

My goldie is showing similar symptoms, the tip of its fins are changing colour(dark purple).

His behaviour is quite strange, its like he's trying to swim through the glass, he does this like the entire day!!

Yes, the female is becoming a male, the most dominant female will change into a male and take over the harem, so to speak, he is beautiful after the change.
    Cheers Anita

It takes a few weeks to change over but its fascinating to see the change. You do need a few more goldies though as they like to school
