For all of the guys enjoying the late season that seems to be starting in the Eastern Cape, I have a word of warning. My GF and I parked at the main car park at Glen Eden on Saturday late afternoon and had a very short (10min) walk on the beach. Upon returning to my car, burglars had somehow gained entry to my car and stolen my camera and lenses and her phone, cash, card and glasses. Quick and slick! Worst of all, the insurance is not honouring my claim for the camera, as there is no sign of forced entry:(.

I've since discovered that it is a frequent and ongoing problem at Glen Eden. I would however be very wary of parking anywhere these days. It seems that the authorities are unable to control these sort of problems anymore.

moral of the story - if this happens to you and you see no sign of forced entry...... break a window!

When I locked my keys in the car, the lock smith used a jimmy and it literally took 2seconds to open the door!

I guess they gained entry by breaking the lock on your door, sorry man.

ask them to show you that clause, and then call the insurance ombudsman and see how quick they pay

This was on carte blanch. Thieves sit waiting for you. As you use your centeral locking to lock the doors, they jam the signal with and ordinary garage door opener. The doors are left unlocked and 1.2.3 they are in.

Yeah always check your car does actually lock if you have central locking. Probably applies to a few other makes but on any VAG cars you can get a VAG-COM cable or someone who has the right one for your car to enable the alarm "squawk" when locking/unlocking. Might sound old school and be annoying but at least then you know.

Being in the security industry .... I'll verify that this is true but the solution is the advice Rory has given .... Learn to "tune" your ears for the actual locking sound of your doors and physically check that your doors have locked ... A "moments" glance at the doors can save you a "lifetime" of heartache
