    Hi Guys & Girls
I should have asked this before,
I needed to make a home for a light in my sump & settled on doing this:

    6mm glass - 290 x 290 siliconed to the top rim - 70W HPS lamp, 3.5kg + it does get pretty warm.
Now that only lasted 24 hours before it cracked, i'm thinking heat + weight stress??.

    Use Acrylic/plexiglass rather?
Will that bind with silicone as well as glass to glass ?
Or is there a more specific type of glass i should be using?
I can't go a lot more thicker as there's not much clearance up above.

Plexi glass and acrylic will catch on fire. You get temperd glass or heat treated glass that can handle the heat. I am not sure on pricing though.

Why not put in a 20w led flood light, works just as well for cheato and less heat.

Went looking at makro for one of those today & they only had with the sensor, ended up grabbing a 13W par 38 4200K for now...Its not a long term solution but it will do for now

I use 10W cheap Chinese Led units. Around 100 bucks at the China shops.

Hi Riaan ,my interest in throwing the extra watts at it was to attempt to get chaeto to take care of N&P on its own.....The 70W HPS was a half power attempt from seeing guys being pretty happy using 150W HPS lamps...After having that 70W unit in there if its creating enough heat to help aid 6mm glass to crack i don't think i want to play with it anymore.
For interests sakes to anyone have a read & a look at the 2nd vid - Chaetomorpha Algae
