    A tank being 1200mm (L) x 1500mm (W) x 800mm (H), what would the glass thickness need to be?
It will have braces on the top.....

Ive been told 12mm is fine, but I want to make double sure
Its also not Starfire glass if that makes a strength difference.

I tried the model, excel sheet calculator and it said 16mm.

I would go with 15mm, if and only if the tank is heavely braced top abd bottom!

If you drop your height slightly you can go with 12mm (depending on your bracing??).
Also hard to reach the bottom over 700mm height:blush:

You should use a split base, which has to lay in between the side panels. Do not put the side panels onto the base. 700 or 800 high doesn't really matter. I would go for 800 (If 15mm glass is in your budget. If you go with 12mm, then drop to 700mm). The tank is 1,2 x 1,5m, so you cannot reach the bottom anyway. 15mm glass with bracing right around 100mm wide. Bracing at the bottom right around 50mm wide.
Between all panes you should have 2mm silicone. Between the two bases I would make sure that there is 3mm silicone in between. On top of this joint, I would put a brace, 100mm wide.
And there is no need for metal halides. It would look nice though.

The 12mm recommendation for side panels on a tank 1200L x 1500W x 800H with a water height of 750 is fine. The base will have to be a double 10mm.

All our tanks from 650mm - 800mm are constructed with 12mm glass. But the maximum water height is 760mm. Some of them are 3200 x 1500 x 800 water height 750 ( 3600L)

Thanks guys, this forum is really great
I know about the 600mm light situation for corals,
My thoughts was to only fill up to the 700mm line, and canopy from there,
I wasnt going to fill her up to the 800mm

The base 22mm, if that makes sense, probably meant 20mm

    I just love 800mm height, I dunno, I think I have something against 600mm

I also tried to 3d render it, I have no idea how to save it as a JPEG and how to get the dimensions showing like yours

And so? If your tank is 800 high, you will obviously put the light hungry corals close to the surface and not so light hungry ones deeper in the water column.

It actually almost doesn't matter how deep your tank will be, as long as you put your corals in the right place.;)
