I'm in the market for new home theatre system and would like some ideas on what brand to buy.
Just for the record - no Sony, LG, Samsung, etc please :p

Looking at complete Yamaha system, NAD, Cambridge audio, or Monitor audio speakers with Yamaha amp combination, KEF, Jamo, etc

A bit of back ground - I bought a Yamaha home theatre system 10 years ago and it's still going strong, but would like to upgrade and move this one to the room. So in that sense I'm very happy with Yamaha quality and they sound great. The new amps are windows 7 compatible, 3D ready, bluetooth, network connections, 8 HDMI inputs, etc - so they're very versatile :)

Or can you convince me otherwise?

tobes...Yamaha..for ALL the reasons you mentioned...including reliability.

I have used their amps, synthesizers, even guitars (not too keen on those though)...and entertainment products...never dissapointed

    What do you get for $6m? How about a Stewart Snowmatte laboratory-grade screen, a Sony ultra-high-resolution 4,096 x 2,160 digital projector, 30 amplifiers (!), 16 subwoofers, 10 tweeters and 8 tower speakers

The home theater, which he calls “Kipnis’ outer limits theater”, is an 8.8 channel channel audio system (although there are a lot more speaker than that) and delivers a frequency response of 10Hz to 100 kHz.

I agree!! Yamaha is the way to go!!!!! But if you're going to buy Japanese, I suggest you do it sooner, rather than later. The consumables coming in from Japan are going to become very scarce in the very near future... At least until Japan has been fixed up again.

having all the best in the world means nothing if your delay, angles and distances are wrong....
when u have decided on what u want, drop me a line and i can send a dosemeter setup for ur system and u can squeeze an extra 30% out your system

Thanks @dallasg, but the Yamaha amps comes with a YPAO feature. Not sure if it does the same job you talking about, but here is what they say in the catalogue and you can see the "thing" next to the amp in the pic.

"This automatic sound optimization system analyses the room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound at the listening position. YPAO-R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) goes even further by correcting for unwanted sound reflections in the room. It also provides DSP Effect Normalization, which varies the CINEMA DSP parameters according to the reflected sounds."

At @sean_koekemoer - not going to type out the amp specs, it is literaly a full A4 page long. Just a quick one on it

It has 8 HDMI inputs, bluetooth, Web browser control, Ipod connectivity, Full HD and 3D, 1330W RMS (190 x 7), 7.2 channel, Bi-amp feature, 23 DSP programs, wireless connection, even virtual presence speaker, system back up/recovery function, etc,etc

Front speakers are 250W RMS, centre 250W, bookshelfs 150W, Sub 270W :yeahdude:

    @sean_koekemoer

Yip, great amp. But I'm also looking at Monitor Audio speakers. They look excellent, very clean.

This is the range of front surrounds, not going to post all the pics of the centres and the rear surrounds etc - take note the prices are only for the fronts ;)

    Bronze BX6 - about R6990

    Silver RX8 - about R14490

    Gold GS60 - about R34690

    And then the Platinum range

    For the biggest fronts PL300 - about R88990 (yes, you read right)(the smaller PL200 - R59990)(centre is R39990)(Sub - R39990)

I saw these in person, just awesome

Now, where is my lotto ticket :p

If you don't mind Sean, how much did you pay for the CA system?
