I am getting a clam today most likely a T.Maxima. Is there something I should look out for before I take it home?

Check that it is responsive to movement and that it is not gaping.

Wave your hand over the top of the clam so as to shadow it from the light, it should suddenly retract it's mantle slightly and then come back out again.

Got a small clam about 7,5 cm across looks healthy was not atached to any thing but responds to light and shadows and is not gapping.Placed it high in my rock work after a 4 hour plus drip aclimitisation.

Some clams like to be on rock, others prefer to be on substrate. Just make sure which one you got. If it did attach, then I would leave it alone.
