The base is made up of 6mm ply covered with two layers aquatic foam designed for this purpose. overall its 18mm thick giving a nice firm base to start with and also easier to slide the heavy tank into its home

The substrate is Carib-sea Pink Fiji Sand to a depth of 1"

I plan to build the base live rock above this using , you could say stilts really.
I've got reef construction putty which I'll add to the base rock and add it to the live rock before putting it in the tank. I plan to remove the sand only where the putty will touch the glass leaving a small gap under the rockwork for flow.

So very nice Geordie :D

Glad to see your setup progressing.

The RO has made a 6" depth in 18 hours now and rising.

The total stock will be moved once I match the sg........ etc and I'll also be adding another 4 boxes of cured live rock making a total of 7 boxes. £ ouch!!

Geordie, Just a quick question. I have been lurking about on UltimateReef.com and it seems a lot of the folks in the UK buy these pre-assembled tanks. Is that the norm over there ?
Also noticed Ebay seems to be a big thing there with plenty of cheap good second hand equipment about.

Love the way your tank is looking though.

Hi Geordie,

Looking very nice! Well planned. You are talking about 7 boxes. How much Kg live rock per box?

Hi Smithers,
This tank was made on site but there are a lot of firms making to order and delivering made to measure.
There are alot of choices over here for pre-made factory tanks , mainly 200g and under available also. It really depends whether you want a custom job or an out of the box aquarium, I guess we're spoilt for choice really.
E-BAY is another matter all together, its massive, you can buy almost anything you care to think of from anywhere in the world, either bidding like an auction or paying a lower than average fixed price for new or secondhand items, some have even set up entire internet shops using ebay.
Hope this answers your query mate.

Nice Georgie.. I remember you posting on WWM a long time ago when you 1st started this project.. well it seems long ago, you have come a long way. I am glad to see water going into this tank.. awesome dude, well done.. I am gonna keep my eye on this tank , it is going to be a stunner ! please keep the pics rolling in.

Looks great :)

How are those penductors, have you used them before?

Yes, VERY NICE.

I like the wood work, solid wood (what is it???) is always better. Just one word of advice - make sure the wood is properly treated, especially on the inside. I would recommend from experience that you apply at least 3 coats of a good quality EXTERIOR grade varnish on the inside (exterior grade varnish is UV resistant...).

Cheers for the advice Hennie,
The whole solid wood cabinet had been given 3 coats of high quality Marine Varnish , as used on Boats.
