Fresh water skimmers, uh ha ....

    I thought I'd give you guys a peek at one of the the systems used at water treatment/purification plants, it's in essence a massive protein skimmer and has been running for about 15 or so years now, treating about 30Ml a day.

    Compressed air and pressurised water are combined in a saturator which looks like a massive air compressor's acumulator, this super saturated water is piped into a reaction chamber with raw water which has been pre treated with chemicals - and this then flows into a settling area with a sand bed beneath which acts as a secondary filter. The skimmate is brushed off with massive scrapers and you can see the crap that comes off. The water quality from this is excellent too.

    It just puts skimmers into perspective when you see 4 average sized swimming pools worth of water turn white .....
