    Is it just RO water?
Or did you mix in the salt before adding the rock? Where did the substrate come from?

I would suggest that you take the live rock out and smell it, if it smells dead then that could be the reason. Did you clean the tank out before you added water ? It could still be the residue of the water that was stuck in places you cant reach.

I cleaned the tank out thoroughly before I used it
Dismantled everything and cleaned it out

Got RO water from LFS then added RED SEA SALT salinity was all good

Love rock came from the guy who sold me the tank
It came about 2 weeks ago straight from his tank

So I put heater and wave pump and kept

If the LR was lying around for a while with no flow, what you experiencing is dead bacteria. The smell will go away after a few days, but let your tank cycle properly before adding any life stock.

    sulpher smell from anerobic bacteria.
you would have some die off during transportation

see what your tank smells like this afternoon.

I assume there is no other live stock currently in the tank?

Rock was in a bucket with heater and flow

But it was out of water for a day on Monday
Was planning to put the rock in on Monday
Removed the rock from the bucket

Then we had power failure so rock sat out of water
    For about a day

Yeeeeah, definitely the rock if it was sitting out of water for a day. You'd have a LOT of die-off in that time.

That's your answer. Rock being out of water for two days will kill the bacteria. Use some seachem stability to recolonize your bacteria on the rock.

So no need to remove the rock or anything like that?

I wil add some stability this afternoon and see what happens

The dying bacteriaq will now also kick start your cycle, so it's a good thing.

Like Carlos said just add some bacteria to recolonize

Yup...was my first quess as well. The die off from the rock is causing the bad smell. That is why i suggested that you take out a piece of rock and smell it. Maybe add some Special Blend or Prodibio to assist in producing bacteria which obviously has now died off because of the rock being out the water

Stability is not bacteria. I personally don't know the red sea product but i prefer using Special Blend.

@Express Reef , you get a product with similar name but it's not bacteria, did not know he was reffering to Seachem. But in all no harm can be done by adding Special Blend as well
