Is it possible to create too much flow inside a skimmer using recirculation pumps. Im thinking that if there is too much turbulance that it will just disolve the skinmate bubbles before they actually get a chance to rise up into the skimmer cup

Hi Dohn every external skimer has there own rating, but normaly depending on size of skimmer, i will say anything from 800lts-2500 lts, like i said depends on what type of skimmer and size

Imran, I think Dohn is talking about the Recirc pumps not the feed pumps?

Dohn - my recirculating external skimmer, has 2 x 2000 litre per hour recirculating pumps - that is 4000 litres per hour INSIDE the skimmer.
BUT, then, the skimmer is 220mm wide, and 720mm high....

    I dont think i can.
The skimmer needs an External Pumps: Iwaki 40 RLT / Iwaki 55 RLT or equivalent
    iwaki 40 RLT - 750 gallons per hour (2839LPH)
    Iwaki 55 RLT - 1080 gallons per hour (4088LPH)
They say skimmer can process up to 700 gallons per hour (2650LPH)
Does this mean i should make the input smaller that this.

Yes Dohn - you do not gain anything, by making the supply pump bigger. You do want as MUCH recirculation as you can get, though. Because the more the water is recirculated, the more air is sucked into the skimmer, the better the water is "cleaned" from DOC's and POC's.

Feeding the skimmer more water, will just mean that you will get more water that flows out of the skimmer, with crap in it....

i will try with a smaller pump, but im not sure if the design will make bubbles with a smaller pump.
I have sent a mail to the manufacturers with a few questions. its 4:30am there now, so im not expecting an answer soon.
I did notice some micro bubbles in my DT though, so it makes sense flow in and out is too high. but i meant flow inside, specifically around the collection cup.

Dohn, ideally 800-1200lph works well. I fed my ReefOctopus DNW 300 which has 3 * 2000lph recirc pumps with a 1000lph pump.
