This fish will cost roughly 150 USD and is very shy. Once he feels comfortable usually they stop flashing.

So we getting pleasure out of scaring the poor fish...that is sad out of all of us.
It still doesn't detract from the fact that it is a very interesting fish - didn't know that this sort of creature exists.

we share the love for tile fish, dont we :) i never knew about that ability to change colour though, does anyone perhaps know the latin name of that fish?

i am ordering three tiles for my tank and would be interested in finding out, although the change is colour would appear to be a defence mechanism and thus one I hope not to see.

but they are fantastic fish if you can keep them in the tank :p

it would appear to be an Hoplolatilus Clupatyi and available on the list i have from that supplier ill have to look into him closely as i was aiming at Dusky tile fish (Hoplolatilus Cuniculus) or the purple tilefish (Hoplolatilus Purpureus)
as i have experience with those.

does anyone know much about the flashing tilefish?

they are some of the most beautiful fish when they decide to appear out the rock work, shy and retiring and like to feed fairly often, but awesum to have

Yip, I had that blue one. Mine was very tame and swam into my hand sometimes. Here's a pic

He also use to "bob" with his head out the water when I tapped with my finger on the surface. Probably wanting something to chow :p
